Irish forerunners - illustrated

From an original idea by David Petley-Jones

At a meeting of the Shropshire Philatelic Society on the 16th April 2008, David Petley-Jones showed Ireland. In the second half of the evening, the Irish overprints on the King George V stamps of Great Britain were included, and those present at the meeting were given a sheet which showed how the issues could be seperated. The version on this web page is taken directly from the copy supplied by David Petley-Jones to who all credit is due, and all I have done is create the links to the pictures for this web version in place of the SG numbers that were on the original sheet. The catalogue numbers have been removed to avoid any copyright problems with the publishers.

Within the table a camera icon, (camera icon), links to an image, an 'X' indicates that the item exists in this state, but we have no picture. Multiple camera icons bring up different pictures and these can be opened at the same time and arranged on screen for comparission. In addition to the basic stamps illustrated we have also added in some variations and other items. We hope that this will provide greater detail as well as provide the basis for further development.

CAUTION
The scanned images are designed to give the best possible reproduction on the web.
As such the files used are quite large and may take several seconds to appear once the camera icon,
(camera icon), has been clicked. We hope that the delay for each image is worth the wait
If you wish to enlarge the pictures, right click the image and save the picture to your hard drive
